"Imaginary Spaces" Comp

Here's the color comp for a painting for the upcoming "Imaginary Spaces" show at Gallery Nucleus next week. The idea is to create a painting of an imaginary world without any characters in it. This comp shows the basic shapes that make up a forest of tree shaped castles, the final painting has alot more detail. I'll post it soon.

Weekend film shoot

Just got back from this last weekend's film shoot. Dik came this time along to help. Thanks again Dikki. The Prynoski's made sure I was on top of everything, and Steve Kellner (of Animation Meat fame) helped and took this dope picture. Started off slow with a two hour delay because of a foggy morning but later in the day we got a lot of good stuff. Didn't get everything so we will have to make a second trip. By the way, remember to drink water. Dehidration is nothing to laugh at. All in all it was a good day.

TTG Chicken Gots A Job!

Hi there I just recently had gotten the chance to catch up with the Famous TTG Chicken this week! I am doing a report on "Poultry in the Workplace" and discovered that THE TTG Chicken has a second job as a Administrative Tax Filing Consultant. Here is the interview:

Are you still apart of TTG?
Yes very much so, we are all part of the same coop!

How long have you had this 2nd Job?
Well being a TTG doesn’t pay the bills…so I felt I had to spread my wings a bit. That was 8 months ago!

Who is your Favorite TTG?
Mike Daley

When next years Comic-Con come around will you quit your job?
No I will just ask for time off. I just don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket.

What are you doing in preparation for next years Comic-Con?
What everyone else does. Talk about what I am going to do for 10 months and then do something totally different 2 months before Comic-Con starts!

Well it was great to talk to you.
Thanks and I’ll see you at Comic-Con 2007

"SMOKE" *Illustration Friday*

Well here I am once again, this week was kind of hard. I have been sleep deprived and just overall slow going. I got this idea from my girlfriend Vanessa...She suggested the guy from Alice in Wonderland smoking! So once again I did most of the work during my lunch hour from work. I have been working on my coloring skillz, I'd say it is my weakness but I will keep pluggin' away at it until I get it right.

Thanks for everyone who comments, it really helps!

DAY 4 NIGHT

LATELY I am doing a lot of outdoors photography. I really wanted to get some good night shots but have been so far, unsuccessful. Then last week I was watching LOTR, TWO TOWERS and there is a part where Legolas and Aagorn are talking about the impending battle late at night. The shot looks real cool because it seems as if the moon is super bright and is lighting up the entire landscape with an erie blue glow. So I tried my own day for night version of one my own raw daytime photos. Hurray Photoshop!! Must do more.

"WIND" *Illustration Friday*

Well it is that time again! Here is my idea for Illustration Friday. I changed the composition a few times and am trying new stuff with color...Like coloring the lines and not just leaving them black. It been such a challenge trying to do these between work and all, but in the long run it really pushes me to be creative and not just go home and sit in front of the TV!

"GHOST" *Illustration Friday *

Well here is my entry for Illustration Friday. It's a take on the "Ghost Hunter" TV shows, where people pretend they hear and see ghost. I personally can't watch it cause I get to scared. Kinda' like when I HEAR the "Unsolved Mystery's" theme song I just get all freaked out. That's right I am a 29 year old beast of a man scared of ghost, monsters and especially aliens!

Enjoy!

Well here is my first go and the topic was "Smitten". I sketched and inked and colored during my lunch hours this week off and on. I can see myself really gettig into this...fun and you have to be kind of fast. So without further ado here it is! On to next week challange!

New Illo

Time to start painting again. Here is the preliminary work for a new illustration. I found this DKNY ad in a magazine and thought it would make a cool girl picture. I need to do some more work on the skirt and to make sure that her pose looks natural. Any thoughts would help.

Comic Con book by Mike Roush

Hey everybody! I would like to announce my book of Comic Con 2006. This year instead of a normal everyday sketchbook I decided to make an animated sketchbook. I call it Flip-o-scope. It is a 60 page flipbook with two animations inside. The first one is a monkey chasing a butterfly and on the other side is a prizefighter boxing a kangaroo. Can't wait for Con!

A Portrait

A portrait.

Its Breakfast Time!!!!!

Man, YouTube really does have everything. Possibly one of the the most fun projects I've worked on in a while. I animated half of this spot with Chris Garrison at Titmouse last year. We animated it the ol fashion way with pencil and paper. The only draw back to this project was the nightmares I had everynight after listening to the rap over and over again all day long.

Christmas in May

I was looking through my sketchbook recently and found a sketch I had done in December while watching TV, so I decided to turn it into a painting.

HURRAY.......I don't have any more money!

So I just got my new 21 inch Wacon Cintiq in the mail and, oh boy.....This thing rocks! I have been using the 15 inch ones at work and I have subsequently gotten addicted to drawing right on my screen. I decided to get one for home so I could bust out some freelance and not have to go back to work on the weekends. I think it is one of the best investments a freelancing or personal projects artist can make. Out of the four original Titmouse employees all four have bought one, and that is saying alot for an artist's wages. I guess I just wanted to rub it in to all the other those guys who don't have one. Hi five Dik. "clap!" No but seriously you guys can come over anytime you want to watch me draw on my Cintiq.

and here is my first drawing.....more to come.

The Z's are Upon Us...

Here is a quick concept for a story I want to have ready for Comic-con, called "The Z's"... I want the boy to be younger; so, that already needs to change, but I just wanted to start thinking about him... I actually think this age boy would work better in another unnamed fantasy story I am developing, I will hopefully start that one up later this year...

Metalocalypse

______________________________________
Okay, the cat is officially out of the bag.
Dik and I are working on one of the [adult swim] swim shows called "Metalocalypse". So new is this show that it hasn't even aired yet. In fact we haven't even finished the first season. Which is why I had a good laugh when I saw this in studio trailer on-line the other day. It is still totally rough and I don't think it was meant to be released to the public......but iut was! So here it is. Check it out.

P.S. I think the trailer has the older name of the show "Dethklok" which has now been changed to "Metalocalypse" due to a pending copyright infringment. Dethklok is still the name of the band.

A little info: Metalocalypse is the newest show from Brendon Small (Home Movies). We are doing the whole show in house at Titmouse animation. I am the show's lead animator and Dik is currently serving as the show's one man layout department. Rock on!

First painting with cel-vinyl

Well i have now officially begun the frustrating/cool process of learning to paint with cel-vinyl. I really like the feel of the paint and how it goes down. I really should invest in smaller brushes, i found myself struggling in areas where i wanted more detail. Anyway, here it is in all its glory. Oh, one more thing, the image size is about 5x6"

Flash Animated ecards

So my good friend, and fellow "The Those Guys" member, Matt Spangler is in charge of the freelancers over at a company called Evite.com. They have a whole lot of cool cards and invitations that you can send on-line, for free no less. Matt let me do some flash animation freelance for him and I just wanted to let you guys check them out. Also check out all the cool stuff Matt has done already. Matt is really doing it up. Thanks Matty.

just a tree on a hill

Here is something i just decided to draw up. I setup the laptop on the table then sat back on my couch and painted about 4 feet from my monitor. I want to try and paint more and more like this, it feels more like painting and helps me focus more on just doing and not worrying about layers, brush opacity etc. All done in Photoshop CS. Well, here it is.

Kid In Suit

Here's a sketch from an ad in Vanity Fair. There's something odd and interesting about kids dressed up like adults, which made me want to do the drawing.
